Job Summary:

The Director of Operational Risk is responsible for the management of operational risk within North American Bancard (NAB), including Chargeback, Collections, Risk and Customer Investigations Teams. This role will be responsible for ensuring that risk identification and assessment processes are well established and understood, and that all matters relating to operational risks are communicated and escalated in a timely, accurate, and forthright manner.

 This Director level position will manage the methodology and parameters used for acquiring risk management, including creation, testing and review of models, and identifying, monitoring and assessing current and emerging risks.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Daily management of the Operational Risk functions at NAB, including strategy for Chargeback, Collections, Risk and Customer Investigations.
  • Managing the process of over limit/hold fund escalation process, monitoring other identified high risk industries, and ensuring pre-emptive strategies are in place to deal with anomalies.
  • Develop and manage operational risk assessment strategy for the utilization of assessing new business development opportunities to ensure that risk within each segment is appropriately identified, assessed, mitigated, managed and reported upon.
  • Participate in the development of risk policy and to ensure that the business operates within appropriate policies.
  • Perform oversight of NAB’s Credit Operating Guidelines as they relate to Operational Risk to ensure processes are efficient and to proactively mitigate potential losses.
  • Update policies and procedures with respect to approval and notification of changes to ensure decision makers have full knowledge of the inherent Credit Risks.
  • Accountability for Risk Metrics, ensuring that timely, accurate and meaningful reporting on SLAs, Deficiencies, Approvals and Volume is available to executives.
  • Understand the historical loss data within NAB and support effective communication between Underwriting, Fraud, Risk, Chargeback and Collections on merchant losses with the ability to aid in recognizing and mitigating risk for our entire merchant portfolio.

 

 

 

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Commerce or Statistics
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with progressive responsibilities for Risk Management
  • Experienced in communicating with senior management, peers, employees and the external community and a strategic leader that is currently successfully managing a team of individuals in the area of credit and risk management
  • Post graduate degree with a CPA or CFA designation preferred
  • Payment processing industry experience preferred

 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong technical credit and analytical ability, with a focus on the knowledge of the acquiring/payments industry.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation) to convey factual and conceptual information on complex issues.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills to manage client groups internally and externally
  • A strong team player with the ability to develop relationships and partnerships cross-functionally.
  • A creative and forward thinker who understands the bottom line requirements of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage change.

Direct Reports: 60

Travel Requirements: Ability to travel up to 25% of the time

License and Certification Requirements: CPA or CFA designation preferred
