Job Description

North American Bancard, a multi-faceted payments technology leader, is looking for a Leave of Absence (LOA) Manager to join the growing Benefits & HR team. This person can be located onsite either in our Troy, MI headquarters, or, our Woodland Hills, CA office.

This is a brand new role giving you the opportunity to be a trailblazer and help our growing HR team improve. You will have the opportunity to make recommendations for new and improved leave of absence processes/programs to support cost saving measures to the business. 

As the Leave of Absence Manager, you will be responsible for the management and administration of all leave of absence programs (i.e. FMLA, ADA, Workers compensation, personal/military leaves), for salaried and hourly employees across multiple locations. We are in need of someone with extensive knowledge in federal, state and local leave laws to ensure compliance. 

 

What you will be doing: 

Leaves of Absence and Disability Administration

  • Manage all aspects of the various leave of absence programs
  • Responsible for sending all leave notices that are required by law
  • Independently approve and/or deny leave cases based on relevant medical information
  • Manage and document interactive accommodation processes
  • Recommend program and process enhancements to improve the customer experience, and focus on automation where possible
  • Manage relationships with any third-party vendors affiliated with LOA related programs
  • Maintain solid working knowledge of all LOA types, in addition to staying updated on current industry practices, developments, government regulations and legal issues related to employee leave provisions
  • Develop and deliver presentations and training to employees, management and human resources on current and new leave programs
  • Identify issues and concerns as they arise and proactively develops and executes a plan for resolution
  • Establish data driven analysis of leave of absence activity to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Provide information and guidance to employees and supervisors regarding the policies, benefits and application process for the different leave programs
  • Maintain and audit leave records in the company’s time and attendance system
  • Provide support on additional benefit related projects as needed

Worker’s Compensation and Risk Management

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of training programs for targeted workplace safety concerns and ergonomic programs in response to trends in employee injuries
  • Work with Facilities team to evaluate worker’s compensation program effectiveness
  • Meets mandatory OSHA reporting requirements and other related programs for the company

Job Requirements

What we need from you: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or other related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience administering leave of absences to include administration of both continuous and intermittent leaves and workplace accommodations
  • Experience working with a multi-state employer
  • Proficient in the use of Excel, PowerPoint and/or G-suite
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting data, and presenting findings to senior leadership
  • Extensive demonstrative knowledge of related federal, state and local leave laws
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a high level of customer service to maintain professional working relationships
  • Ability to anticipate and identify problems, and use sound judgement & fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions
  • Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines and priorities
  • Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgement and common sense
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work well under pressure

It would be a plus if you have: 

  • Experience in a corporate environment
  • Experience working with ADP
  • Experience drafting policies and procedures
  • General understanding of other HR-related benefits
