Job Description

We are looking for an Underwriting Supervisor to supervise a team of underwriters in our Eureka, California location. If you're seeking a new challenge where you can apply your analytical and problem solving skills, along with your supervisory experience, this role could be right for you.


 Here's what you'll be doing:

  • Supervise Team of Underwriters
  • Plan and facilitate initial and ongoing training of Underwriters.
  • Provide support to the Underwriting team through fielding general inquiries, providing a high-level overview of file submissions, and preemptively identifying high risk scenarios.
  • Handle escalated Underwriting issues.
  • Oversee the distribution of workload.
  • Lead team meetings.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports.
  • File Submission Supervision
  • Ensure VIP and high volume file submissions receive appropriate and timely review
  • Organize underwriting statistics
  • Monitor approvals and ensure they are in line with HMS Underwriting Signing Authority Matrix.
  • Backup underwriting as needed.
  • In collaboration with upper management, conduct periodic assessments of department policies and procedures to ensure they are aligned with company initiatives.
  • Attend educational industry events as requested.
  • Perform other job-related duties or special projects in support of department as assigned.



Job Requirements

Here's what we need:

  • Bachelor’s degree or minimum of five years industry experience or minimum of five years supervisory experience.
  • Ability to manage staff.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working in a high-pressured environment working with deadlines and using own initiative.
  • Ability to work and communicate as a team while also working independently to accomplish individual tasks.
  • Ability to interact professionally with management, sales and merchants.
  • Efficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
